Hi, I’m Amos.
Pianist, teacher, online creator, and founder of Piano Mastery with Amosdoll.
My relationship with piano has developed through two very different worlds — years of classical piano and traditional music education, alongside developing my ability to hear music, work songs out by ear, improvise and create my own arrangements.
I’ve also spent more than a decade teaching music online, where my piano content has now reached more than 3.5 million subscribers and followers and over 2 billion views across social media.
Today, all of those experiences have come together in what I’m building with Piano Mastery. But it definitely didn’t start there.
Two Very Different Worlds. One Musician.
How I Got Here…
I Started Playing Music By Ear on YouTube
I started making piano covers on YouTube, learning songs by listening to them and working the notes out for myself. I didn’t know it at the time, but playing music this way would eventually become a huge part of my musical life.
AMEB Grade 8 Piano
Alongside playing by ear, I was progressing through traditional classical piano training. At 14, I completed AMEB Grade 8 Piano with High Distinction — developing two sides of my musicianship at the same time.
Associate Diploma & My First Piano Students
I achieved my AMEB Associate Diploma in Piano with High Distinction and started teaching classical piano one-to-one — my first experience trying to take what I understood and make it understandable to somebody else.
Licentiate Diploma & HSC Music
I achieved my AMEB Licentiate Diploma in Piano and received a perfect score of 50/50 in both Music 2 and Music Extension for my HSC. Classical training had given me a strong foundation — but I was still developing my ability to hear music and work it out for myself.
Performing Professionally
I became a Music Director and keyboardist for live weddings and commercial events for around three years — using those skills in real live performances with other musicians.
I Started Teaching Songs on YouTube
A major turning point. I began creating step-by-step piano tutorials, working out songs by ear and verbally teaching the Melody + Chords so anyone, even with no music experience, could follow along and play songs they loved. That simple teaching style became the foundation of thousands of tutorials.
Playing Paid Song Requests Live By Ear
I hosted my first live song-request stream — eventually more than 215 livestreams, averaging 2+ hours each. Viewers sent paid requests, and I’d listen, work it out and play it live on the spot.
University
I graduated from UNSW with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Music — adding another angle to an education already shaped by classical training, teaching, performing and playing by ear.
Ear Training
I launched my ear-training book, Ear Mastery, focused on teaching people to recognise musical intervals and develop their ability to identify what they were hearing — not just “here are the notes,” but how to learn to hear things for yourself.
Sheet Music Transcription
At the same time, I launched a custom sheet-music transcription service — taking paid requests and turning what I heard into written notation. Playing by ear and reading sheet music had simply become different ways of working with the same music.
My First Structured Online Piano Courses
After years of individual YouTube tutorials, I created Beginner Piano Courses on Udemy and Teachable — but I began seeing a bigger problem. There wasn’t a shortage of piano information online. There was too much of it.
Piano Mastery
Classical piano, sheet music, playing by ear, theory, ear training, private teaching, tutorials, improvisation, live performance, transcription — so often taught as completely separate subjects. That’s why I created Piano Mastery with Amosdoll: an online music school built around connecting the different sides of musicianship, rather than treating them as isolated skills.
Still Building
What started with a kid uploading piano covers worked out by ear has grown into more than 11,000 piano videos and over 5,700 songs taught in detail — what I believe is YouTube’s largest library of step-by-step verbal piano tutorials by an individual creator.
But what I’m most interested in now isn’t simply making the library bigger. It’s connecting everything I’ve learned along the way. That’s what I’m building with Piano Mastery — and there’s still a lot more to come.
Hear It
Learn to hear what’s happening in music.
Know It
Learn to understand why it works.
Play It
Connect those abilities with what you can actually play and create.
The long-term goal is musical freedom — being able to hear a song and work it out, understand the music behind it, improvise, arrange, compose, read music, or simply learn and play something you love. Not being completely dependent on only one way of learning music.
